Though it's so often viewed
as pained
or intractable,
old age
is actually swift-
ly accommodating:
the way
all the rudeness,
the impulsivity,
and of course,
the bitter,
bilious gall
which leached
into our youth
and infected all its vigor,
whenever they're recalled,
are ardently
rejected
as irrelevant,
unfit, or just plain
inadmissible.
