are nice, but
best dispensed
upon the dead;
the living, on
the other hand,
would vastly prefer
to be fought for.
Not that a victory,
or anything
like harmony,
truce, or neutrality
could ever
be won—or even
close at hand—since
peace
is just another
state of affairs
you can't wish for;
rather, much more
like war, it's
something you
declare.
