we too
have been doing our best
to keep busy—
hellbent
on narrowing the parentheses
surrounding our doubts
and diligently screwing
our faces up
toward heaven—
not with the intent
to discern
if it's up there,
but rather,
to repeat
(all the better to memorize—
first master,
then internalize,
then make automatic)
the mechanic of our looking,
so we don't have to
try anymore.
