how practical this
surfeit of color is—
how fall’s glamour
goes so purposefully
tripping on its own largess—
how a blanket
of leaves will super-
sede its inconvenience
and tends to do much
more than just beguile
or interrupt us;
it also
just so happens
to shrewdly obstruct
our view of a future
wherein honey-
comb gluts
of frivolous leaves
no longer clog mind's
no longer clog mind's
gutters, trapping memory
and insulating
whatever loud
homunculus resides there
from the functional
knowledge and
intractable glory
of its own pre-
determined—but still
untimely death.
