MEMENTO

To the old scythe-
nosed crow, half-cackling, half-
rasping

who has lapsed
in the flight which is his grim
and ceaseless office

to perch upon that
street lamp in my vantage
in broad daylight:

I am glad
to be reminded of
the certitude of death

in a manner which I can't
laugh off—and yet, which I can
manage.
