what happens,
however unpleasant,
the story line pivots
and continues
to unspool in response
to that action.
But despite
complex changes
to rules and directions,
every piece lands
on the same space
eventually:
it isn't my secrets
which bind me
back
to that loneliness;
it's the fact that
my past can't exist
in this present.
